Announcing Ziji Sparks

Note: We’ve been working hard on this site, with the overall vision of making it a platform for connection between individuals, Ziji groups, and with the world at large.

We’re rolling out a lot of specific features that go with that. Last week, Jenny introduced the Ziji Forum, a place for discussion and sharing around a topic. We have a major announcement for next week, too, so please check back in then. And please participate in any way you feel inspired to! It’s wonderful to see you guys on here.

Announcing Sparks

Sparks is a project to allow us to share and promote projects we’re working on that further the Ziji Collective vision of creating an uplifted human society.

The Inspiration

Sparks aims to create a Ziji-wide space for us to present, and promote, projects we’re working on that help create enlightened society.

When I lived in Boston, I was constantly working on spiritual projects: a meditation book club, a spiritual startup, and more. So were many of my friends; for example, Peter Park managed to start an inter-denominational retreat and a Dharma house within the same year. Other friends just wanted to organize bike rides or hikes—perfectly lovely things to do, as well.

But none of us really had a formal place in the Boston Ziji group to discuss these projects, or to ask for help with them. Trying to sneak an announcement in at the weekly meetings always felt like coopting the space, so we mostly stuck to discussing our projects in one-on-one interactions with people who indicated strong interest—even when lots of other people in the community were interested and would’ve loved to help. This made it much harder to get things done.

So Sparks is an effort to make the kind of space I would’ve loved in Boston, across the entire Ziji community.

What’s a Spark?

A Spark is a project that someone’s working to start that is consistent with the Ziji Collective vision of creating an uplifted human society.

A Spark is a project that someone’s working to start that is consistent with the Ziji Collective vision of creating an uplifted human society.

As you can see, a Spark could be a lot of things! Anything from “Let’s start a group to volunteer at nursing homes” to “I’m working on creating a show of contemplative photography” to “I’d like to start a Dharma book club.”

Anyone can submit a Spark, whether formally a part of the Ziji Collective or not.

Why Should I Submit My Project as a Spark?

Submit your Spark as a way to publicize what you’re doing, and involve the Ziji community in supporting you!

Many projects could really use support from the Ziji community: anything from feedback, to members, to suggestions, to cofounders. Submit your Spark as a way to publicize what you’re doing and describe what help you need!

The only exception is if the help you need is primarily monetary in nature. Kickstarter or the Offering Bowl could be good for that, or contact us at zijicollective@gmail.com and we’re happy to talk through your idea.

Where Can I View Existing Sparks?

Simple! Go to zijicollective.com/sparks. I’ve submitted the first one: Medivate Thrive, something I’d very much love to hear your thoughts on.

How Can I Submit My Spark?

Just fill out the form at zijicollective.com/submit-a-spark. You can either submit the URL of a one- or two-minute video answering the questions on the form, or submit text answers to the questions. If you submit text, please link to any resources we can use to build your Spark, like images, URLs, etc.

The form’s a little unadorned right now, so if you’d find it easier just to talk through your project, please feel free to email zijicollective@gmail.com and we’ll set that conversation up.

When Can I Submit?

You can submit at any time! We’ll follow up with you soon after.

How Else Can I Help?

Look at each Spark to find out! I know what amazing things we’re individually doing in Ziji, so if we can support each other in our work it could be incredibly powerful.

Thank you!
